Soundside Cottage

Our Story

Raised on the water. Built for this work.

Family-Driven

Dade Dutton grew up fishing creeks, running boats, and exploring the coastal towns of eastern North Carolina. Long before he built waterfront homes, he learned to respect the water, the weather, and the responsibility that comes with owning property along the coast.

After spending fifteen years building and managing high-end coastal homes, he saw the same problem again and again:

Owners loved their homes, but couldn't always be here to care for them.

Soundside Cottage was created to bridge that gap.

Today, Dade and his wife Chelsea personally care for a small collection of homes throughout southeastern North Carolina, helping owners enjoy their properties without the stress of managing them from afar.

Chelsea brings the hospitality side of Soundside Cottage to life. As a nurse and mother, she understands that caring for people often comes down to paying attention to the details others overlook. She helps coordinate member communication, arrivals, departures, and the small touches that make a home feel ready when owners arrive.

Together, Dade and Chelsea built Soundside Cottage around a simple idea: treat every home as if it belonged to family. And every client as if they were family.

Soundside Cottage oyster shell

The Oyster

Time and care turn a home into a legacy.

Along our coast, oysters spend years transforming something ordinary into something valuable. A grain of sand enters the shell. Layer by layer, season after season, the oyster protects it and slowly creates a pearl.

Coastal homes are much the same. Salt air, storms, humidity, sun, and time are always working against them. Left unattended, small issues become expensive problems.

But with consistent care, attention, and stewardship, a home becomes something much greater than a structure. It becomes a gathering place. A refuge. A place where children learn to fish, grandchildren spend summers, and family traditions are passed from one generation to the next.

At Soundside Cottage, we believe our role is simple:

Protect the shell so the pearl can grow.

The Dutton Principle

Think all the way to the end before taking the first step.

Growing up, Dade learned a simple yet valuable lesson from his father. Whether launching a boat, building a home, preparing for a storm, or coordinating a contractor, success comes from anticipating what happens next.

That principle guides everything we do.

  • Before scheduling a contractor, we think through access, timelines, weather, quality control, and long-term performance.
  • Before hurricane season arrives, we think through preparation, recovery, and what your home will need afterward.
  • Before recommending maintenance, we consider how today's decision affects your home years from now.

It's a simple principle, but it has protected homes, projects, and investments for generations.

Why We Started

Why we started Soundside Cottage.

We started Soundside Cottage because we believe coastal homeowners deserve a trusted local advocate.

Not another call center. Not a rotating list of subcontractors. Not a company that only appears when something goes wrong.

Just one trusted local relationship.

When a member calls, they know exactly who is answering the phone. When someone walks their property, they know exactly who is on site. When a project needs attention, they know someone they trust is watching over it.

That's the difference between property management and property stewardship.

Service Area

Rooted in Coastal Carolina.

From Oak Island and Wilmington to Wrightsville Beach, Figure 8 Island, Topsail, Emerald Isle, Beaufort, and the communities in between, we serve homeowners throughout coastal southeastern North Carolina. We focus on relationships, not volume, which allows us to provide the level of attention our members expect and deserve.

We'd love to meet you, and learn your home's story.
